DJ Rankin lays out a very fresh philosophical exploration complete with plenty of witty dialogue in Stylish Transient! As we travel through pop up communities and follow several fascinating characters, Rankin begins to build the very philosophy and writing of the book almost into a character itself. For some, this book may seem a bit chaotic, but I found that to be what made it so profound. It breaks the rules of what has been established before in favor of the essence of language, of feelings, and of people. As I read, I felt like I was wandering, and he who wanders often finds the unexpected. Rankin is a master of the unexpected and truly captures some great aha moments here! If you’re looking for something different to read, or maybe you’re a bit of a wanderer, or perhaps you’re looking to explore a different philosophy, definitely come find a home with Stylish Transient!
-Diabolic Shrimp Book Review
Above and below and across dimensions there exists a book beyond the words made up to make up its innnermost composition. This is not that book.
This is but a novel attempt to confound the mind into stepping out of the way of something far greater than itself. Which again is not this book.
A tangle of words strung together in every direction can only ever be a pointer to the greatest mystery of existence past the page. Now that’s starting to sound like this book.
A hodgepodge of mishmash that spins a web of brilliant nonsense until it flips itself upside-down and spills out the tea leaves of his rebrewed coffee cup. He of course has even less idea what he’s talking about than you do, which is why I’m here, so take it from me, you’re gonna love this thing.

Liberation’s Garden
Miles is lost in a world he doesn’t believe in. Paralyzed by the enormity of our situation and resigned to a life of inaction. Then a brief moment sparks his exploration into the folds of the Great Mystery. He learns what it means to live in a good way, how to carry abundance in his heart while shedding the illusion of scarcity, and through the journey, becomes an active participant in his own life. This book has it all. Action. Adventure. Comedy. Romance. Water Protectors. Deep philosophical meanderings and mystical nonsense. Plus frybread. The weights of the world are heavy, there’s a lot of work to be done, let’s get to it already.

UnCage Eden
A Spiritual Philosophy book about food, music and the rewilding of society
Our planet is in peril. Our species is in captivity. We alone hold the key.
We have become disconnected from the love song of our living planet, and as a result, she has become severely out of balance as she spirals through her evolution. It is not beyond our power to regain a harmonious relationship with our plentiful Mother Earth, and as we reweave the web of symbiosis we were born with, humanity may once again experience a life without limitation. We are meant to be integral components of the wild, not slaves of the systematic destruction of it, and as the veil of our incarceration is lifted, we will rise to the occasion of tearing down the walls that contain us.
This is the story of one water protector’s path to understanding, his struggle to find what it means to live in a good way, and the incredible world that his adventure reveals along the journey. From Rattlesnakes to frybread to space dust to space funk, the music of the universe has a most compelling story to share, and as we ride the wave of this fundamental vibration, we become enlightened to the astounding complexity of creation. We are the dreamers, we are the creators, we have the ability to manifest our own reality as we travel throughout this material existence, and it is up to us to believe in the abundance of tomorrow.
We have become lost in a cloud of fear, as we insist on imagining the worst possible outcomes for our children’s future. The powers-that-be are attempting to subdue our awakening, but we are emerging from this nightmare, and rediscovering the true nature of the spirit within. Life is meant to be lived, every moment is meant to be cherished, and you are meant to be you. The language of human supremacy has convinced us that we are powerless, but we alone hold the key to unlocking the cages of our planet, and as we shed this illusion of scarcity, the magic of the garden will once again be free to bloom.
And we’re gonna make the best late night snacks.

This is a cookbook. This is an adventure novel. This is a love story. This is a tale of survival. This is a spiritual journey. This is a catalog of the oppressions and destructions perpetrated by the machine of mankind. This is a handbook on standing up to the tyranny enacted by a corrupt government through the mechanism of fear. This is a recruitment manual for a global movement of resistance. We are winning. It is time to stand up. Enough is enough. Do what feels right.
Last winter I was called to Standing Rock to protect the water and my entire world was flipped upside down. I lived in the most amazing, love based, frozen tipi utopia, where I connected with the greatest human beings imaginable, and connected to myself and the universe through the ceremonies of the Lakota people, and through science. I was simultaneously exposed to not only the long list of evils unleashed on our species and planet in the name of money, but witnessed this first hand through a cloud of tear gas and militarized police. It was the greatest experience ever. I mean, I was grilling steaks in a forty below lightening blizzard. You should come over for dinner sometime.

About the Author
As his handful of metafictional fans are already well aware, DJ’s hardly an author. Not an aspirer of wordsmithing fame but rather an adventurer intent on living a life worth writing about. In fact, it seems quite peculiar for his publishers to ask for an abridged biography when he’s proven time and again to be unable to whittle his word count once he gets going on his favorite subject.
I mean, Stylish Transient is supposedly some great American novel but it’s just another washed up wannabe sitting around stroking his own pen. Then UnCage Eden is three times as long and half as good, his spiritual manifesto and coming of age story as he discovers himself and rejects most everything else about modern society. He takes a break from droning on about himself in his work of fiction based on himself, all the while searching for his own real life Liberation’s Garden. And for anyone who somehow still wants to know, more he spills out the entire ingredient list of what brought him to this page in his origin story, Step One: Save the World.
Which brings me back to my point, what could I possibly come up with to say here that hasn’t been run further into the ground than his size seven corduroys? Yeah sure, so he’s some kind of hitchhiking protest chef who doesn’t use money but instead keeps the fire, protects the water, builds the Earth and rides tornadoes, big deal, and maybe it’s all the elements of a great story except of course a decent author, but perhaps they’ll find someone to play him in the role of a lifetime movie about some idiot that thought anyone would ever read this mess.
Other than that, he’s from Asheville NC, though now he carry’s his home wherever he goes, which is often organizing volunteers for UnSheltered Earth, which is perhaps why you’re here, it’s certainly not for the writing, so feel free to hit him up and please do whatever you can to distract him from trying to write another one of these masterpieces.
